The 2017 Red Blend demonstrates a rich concentration of deep red fruits. Ripe currants combined with fresh raspberries and cherries, carrying with them a bright acidity. Laying in delicate violets and subtle tabacco the wine extends with a long, spice driven finish. The tannins are well integrated and the texture elegant and silky, making this a wine that is drinking beautifully now and will continue to reward with cellaring.
Almost equally divided, with 52% malbec and 48% merlot and aged 18 months in 50% new French oak, this blend uniquely demonstrates the beauty achieved from a collection of our best performing clay soil vineyard blocks.

Focusing first on the cabernet fruit from four mineral-rich, volcanic soil sites nestled on cooler hillside slopes in the Alexander Valley, this vintage's blend is uniquely crafted with delicate inclusions of merlot and malbec.
85% cabernet sauvignon, 8% malbec, 7% merlot, the 2017 Aperture Cabernet is full-bodied and elegant, offering layered, ripe fruit impressions - blackberries, cassis, and ripe blueberries. The mouth feel is dense and round, with smooth, expertly structured tannins and subtle dark chocolate, vanilla bean and light spice notes leading to an extended and lasting finish.

Coming from the rich clay loam soils of an old California chenin blanc site, this brightly lifted wine gives nuanced notes of quince, apple, and stone fruits with a weighted foundation provided by a delicate barrel influence.
The site itself is in Clarksburg, and benefits from naturally warm days and brisk, cool nights made possible by the “Delta Breeze” from the San Francisco Bay. These temperate gusts help create a long growing season and beautifully developed fruit.

Named for the traveling adventurer, Nomad embraces the unexpected. This wine is driven entirely by the vineyard, chosen by Winemaker Jesse Katz as the best representation of the vintage and is never repeated. The 2016 Nomad is a merlot blend that demonstrates an authentic strength and deeply refined beauty.
Dominated by merlot at 93%, this blend is created with supporting parts 5% cabernet sauvignon and 2% cabernet franc.

This smooth and rich cabernet, a mix of clone 337 and clone 7, in just its first release already boasts an impressive pedigree. Its fruit hails exclusively from SJ Ranch Vineyard, a 7.9-acre parcel at the top of Chalk Hill, directly adjacent to the legendary Verité vineyards on Thomas Road.
The site grabbed international headlines in 2017 when a custom bottling from the vineyard by Winemaker Jesse Katz set world records as the highest-selling wine bottle ever to sell at auction.

Dominated by cabernet sauvignon, but enhanced with the delicate complexity of 11% barrel-fermented cabernet franc, this single vineyard blend demonstrates a uniquely refined composition.

Creating the Aperture Red Blend is one of winemaker Jesse Katz's favorite times to engage his creativity and allow the different vineyard lots to guide him. The 2016 blend,Leading with 52% cabernet and supported by 30% merlot, 11% malbec and 7% cabernet franc, beautifully demonstrates a focused tension between the fruit's expansive power and nuanced elegance.

Four hillside cabernet vineyard sites, all with mineral-rich volcanic soils, are always the first focus of this blend. In 2016, our Merlot harvest was particularly incredible, yielding stunning acidity with full and silky tannins. It was a perfect partner to the vivid fruit profile of our Alexander Valley cabernet vineyards. This year's blend, 93% cabernet, 7% merlot, achieves an uncommon, sophisticated balance.

Our custom barrel-fermentation, adapted from winemaker Jesse Katz's experience at Haut Brion in Bordeaux, creates a distinct richness on the palate that is balanced by the varietal's quintessential bright, natural acidity.
